We're not the types to book a driving tour, but the Bolivian Altiplano isn't a regular chunk of land on the way to grandma's house. We've never seen anything like it. Big fat desert like plains carrying you high through the mountains. Forceful geysers blowing the sweet smell of rotten eggs up your skirt, multi-coloured lakes, fields of icy snow spikes (in the desert??).
We drove for about 40 hours over 4 days. And can honestly say, the entire place is wonderfully bizarre. Nothing more so than the thousands and thousands of flamingos that flock here to troll the icy waters and get their pink on.
The special journey was made even more fabulous by sharing it with a couple of fabulous friends we made in Colombia.
Oh yeah, and there was 10 billion tons of salt.
